Preparing for Yeshua's return during a dim present
Since October 7, our reality has shifted dramatically. The atmosphere is charged with tension and uncertainty as we await developments in the ongoing conflict, especially with the looming possibility of Hezbollah’s involvement. As believers, we understand that our spiritual lives often mirror our physical circumstances. We prepare not only for what we can see but also for what lies beyond our immediate reality—most significantly, the return of Yeshua.
The Immediate Response
My first instinct after the outbreak of conflict was to go shopping and prepare. In times of crisis, physical preparedness feels essential. Many men have joined the army, reinforcing our collective sense of urgency. Living under the constant threat of war has heightened our senses; we are perpetually on alert. Any unexpected noise causes us to jump to attention. The fear of the unknown permeates our daily lives, compelling us to stockpile food and supplies and to increase our security measures.
This atmosphere of anticipation reflects a deeper spiritual truth: how are we living in anticipation for the return of Yeshua? Just as we prepare for potential dangers in the world, we must also consider how to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of our Messiah.
Being Spiritually Prepared
In the Gospel of Luke, Yeshua emphasizes the importance of being ready and alert: “Let your waist be girded and your lamps lit” (Luke 12:35). This directive is not merely about physical preparedness but a spiritual posture of vigilance. We are called to be the faithful stewards of what has been entrusted to us.
In Luke 12:41-46, Yeshua provides a parable illustrating the consequences of neglecting this call. The faithful servant, who diligently fulfills his duties while awaiting his master’s return, is commended and rewarded. In contrast, the servant who dismisses his master’s delay and indulges in reckless behavior faces severe consequences. This serves as a sobering reminder for us as believers: we must not become complacent, assuming that our Savior’s return is distant.
Using Our Time Wisely
So, what should we do with our time? How do we invest in our relationships, both with one another and with Elohim? Ephesians 5:15-20 advises us to walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil. This exhortation implores us to understand the will of Elohim and to live in a manner that reflects that understanding.
Make Good Use of Your Time: Time is a precious resource, especially in the face of uncertainty. We must evaluate how we allocate our time, ensuring it aligns with our faith and values.
Walk Carefully: We are called to walk wisely, making deliberate choices that reflect our anticipation for Yeshua’s return. Each decision we make should be informed by our understanding of the will of Elohim.
Stay Spiritually Filled: Ephesians reminds us not to be drunk with wine but to be filled with the Spirit. This means nurturing our spiritual lives through prayer, worship, and community. Singing psalms and hymns encourages a heart of gratitude and reinforces our connection to Elohim.
Keeping Our Lamps Lit: The parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) further illustrates our responsibility. Elohim has entrusted us with talents, gifts, and opportunities, expecting us to invest and multiply them for His glory. We must continually assess how we are stewarding these gifts in anticipation of Yeshua’s return.
Reflecting on Our Relationships
Living in anticipation of Yeshua’s return should shape our relationships. In romantic relationships, the excitement of being with a beloved partner often eclipses trivial concerns. Do we approach our relationship with Elohim with the same fervor? Are we eagerly looking for moments to connect, to deepen our faith, and to share our love for Him with others?
Hebrews 9:27-28 emphasizes that Yeshua will return not to deal with sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him. This anticipation should inspire us to cultivate a passionate relationship with our Savior, one that reflects a deep longing for His presence.
Balancing Life and Faith
It can be challenging to balance our daily responsibilities with our spiritual aspirations. The Apostle Paul expresses this struggle in Philippians 1:21-24, stating that to live is the Messiah, and to die is gain. He grapples with the desire to be with Yeshua while recognizing the importance of his earthly mission. As believers, we must navigate this tension, finding ways to integrate our faith into our daily lives.
In 2 Timothy 4:8, Paul writes, “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day.” This crown is not just for Paul but for all who have loved His appearing. Our anticipation for Yeshua should motivate us to live righteously and to share His message with others.
Living with Expectation
The anticipation for Yeshua’s return should not be a source of fear or anxiety but rather a wellspring of hope and joy. When we reflect on our spiritual walk, we should ask ourselves: are we excited about His return? Just as young lovers yearn for every moment together, do we look forward to our time with our Savior?
This sense of anticipation can transform our daily lives. When we prioritize our relationship with Elohim, everything else falls into place. We find joy in service, purpose in our responsibilities, and peace amidst chaos.
As we live in this current climate of uncertainty, let us remember that our preparation goes beyond physical supplies. It is essential to cultivate our spiritual lives, ensuring that our lamps are lit, our hearts are filled with the Spirit, and our relationships reflect the love of Yeshua.
