Create in Me a Pure Heart – A Deep Biblical Exploration By: Chaim Malespin
The concept of a pure heart is central to biblical faith and spirituality. In Psalm 51:10, David cries out:
“Create in me a clean heart, O Elohim, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Understanding “Pure” in Hebrew and Greek
In biblical language, “clean” and “pure” carried spiritual and ritual significance. In Psalm 24:4, the righteous are described as those with “clean hands and a pure heart”—indicating not just external righteousness, but internal integrity before Elohim.
Matthew 5:8 – “Blessed are the pure in heart”
In Yeshua’s Sermon on the Mount, He declares:
אַשְׁרֵי טְהוֹרֵי־לֵב כִּי־הֵם אֶת־אֱלֹהִים יִרְאוּ
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see Elohim.” (Matthew 5:8)
The phrase “pure in heart” comes from the Greek:
καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ (katharoi tē kardia)
Meaning of “Pure” (Greek: καθαρός / Katharos)
Clean, unstained – Free from dirt, filth, or corruption.
Innocent, upright – Free from guilt or hidden motives.
Undivided, single-minded – A heart fully devoted to Elohim alone, without hypocrisy.
Core Meanings of טָהוֹר (Tahor) in Hebrew
Physically Pure – Clean, uncontaminated (e.g., pure water, pure gold).
Ritually Pure – Fit for worship, not in a state of impurity (טָמֵא / Tamei).
Morally Pure – Free from sin, upright, sincere in devotion to Elohim.
Spiritually Pure – Holy, prepared for the presence of Elohim.
Seeing Elohim – What Does It Mean?
Yeshua’s promise that the pure in heart “shall see Elohim” is profound. The Hebrew and Greek mindsets viewed “seeing” not just as physical vision but deep spiritual perception.
Moses on Mount Sinai – He longed to see Elohim’s glory (Exodus 33:18).
Job’s Revelation – “Now my eyes have seen You.” (Job 42:5)
Isaiah’s Vision – “I saw the Lord seated on the throne.” (Isaiah 6:1)
To see Elohim means to experience His presence, understand His ways, and walk in deep fellowship with Him.
The Cornerstone Laid in Zion
The concept of purity is closely linked with the foundation of faith. Isaiah 28:16 speaks of a cornerstone in Zion:
לָכֵן כֹּה-אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי יִסַּד בְּצִיּוֹן אֶבֶן, אֶבֶן בֹּחַן, פִּנַּת יִקְרַת מוּסָד מוּסָּד; הַמַּאֲמִין, לֹא יָחִישׁ.
“Therefore thus saith the Lord Elohim, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” (Isaiah 28:16)
Messianic Interpretation
In 1 Peter 2:6-7, Peter quotes Isaiah, declaring that Yeshua is the cornerstone rejected by men but chosen by Elohim.
Psalm 118:22-23 reinforces this:
אֶבֶן, מָאֲסוּ הַבּוֹנִים– הָיְתָה, לְרֹאשׁ פִּנָּה.
“The stone which the builders refused has become the head stone of the corner.”
The purity of heart needed to see Elohim is directly connected to trusting the cornerstone—placing complete faith in Elohim’s foundation rather than the shifting sands of the world.
Historical Examples of the “Haman Spirit”
The spirit of Haman in the Book of Esther was one of pride, rage, and demand for worship. Those who refused to bow to his authority were marked for destruction.
This spirit has manifested throughout history in oppressive rulers who demanded absolute submission and sought to destroy those who resisted.
- Ivan the Terrible (1530–1584)
Established brutal rule over Russia, executing perceived threats without trial.
Massacre of Novgorod (1570) – Thousands were slaughtered for resisting his reign.
- King Henry VIII (1491–1547)
Act of Supremacy (1534) – Declared himself head of the Kehila in England.
Persecution – Executed those who refused to acknowledge his authority.
- Louis XIV (1638–1715)
Revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685) – Ended religious tolerance and persecuted believers who would not conform.
- Adolf Hitler (1889–1945)
Totalitarian regime – Demanded absolute control, targeting Jews, believers, and dissidents.
- Joseph Stalin (1878–1953)
Great Purge (1936–1938) – Ordered mass executions and imprisonments of “threats” to his ideology.
- Mao Zedong (1893–1976)
Cultural Revolution – Persecuted intellectuals and those resisting communist indoctrination.
- Kim Jong-il (1941–2011)
North Korea’s dictatorship – Forced absolute loyalty, punishing those who resisted.
- Saddam Hussein (1937–2006)
Chemical attacks against Kurds – Destroyed those he deemed disloyal.
Modern Struggles & the Spirit of Haman Today
This ancient pattern of power-hungry leaders demanding obedience and punishing dissent is still alive today.
The war in Gaza and radical Islamic ideologies demand submission or destruction.
The globalist socialist agenda exerts control through economic and political pressure.
Authoritarian governments seek to eliminate faith and biblical values.
What is the response of believers?
- Stand firm in purity – Do not compromise your faith to appease the world.
- Trust the cornerstone – Yeshua is our solid foundation amidst chaos.
- Engage in spiritual warfare – Pray for Elohim’s intervention and wisdom in these troubled times.
Prayers of the Saints & Fire from the Altar
Revelation 8:3-5 describes how the prayers of the saints rise like incense before Elohim:
“And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before Elohim out of the angel’s hand. And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth…”
This is a picture of divine intervention—the prayers of believers bring fire from the altar that shakes the earth.
Final Call: Walk in Purity & Boldness
The pure in heart will see Elohim (Matthew 5:8).
Those who stand on the cornerstone will never be ashamed (1 Peter 2:6).
The spirit of Haman seeks to destroy, but deliverance will arise from Zion (Esther 4:14).
The fire from the altar is added to the prayers of the saints (Revelation 8:3-5).
May we be purified, emboldened, and faithful as we await the final deliverance and victory in Yeshua.
